“Your wings were ready, but our hearts were not.”
Katherine Elizabeth Carter (KB) was a light to so many and the thousands of messages and facebook posts following her passing were a testament of the kindness she showed toward others.
Katie was born on April 27, 1998 to Amy and Jason Carter. Katie and her siblings, grew up in Ringgold, Georgia where they attended Boyton Elementary, Heritage Middle and Heritage High. Katie graduated with honors from Heritage High in the spring of 2016.
Katie was a dancer and dreamed to dance at the college level. Katie was a member of both the middle and high school dance teams until her senior year. Plans changed for Katie and she decided not to dance at HHS her senior year. Although Katie chose to leave the dance team at HHS, she continued dancing outside of school as a member of Scenic City Dance in Chattanooga. Katie held tight to her dream to dance at the college level and worked hard to master her skills for college tryouts while working as a manager for the HHS football team during the fall of 2015.
Katie was a faithful servant who loved her family, friends, church and working with children. Katie had a heart for others and was known by her classmates as “Kind Katie”. She wanted to be an educator like her parents and her pappy and worked part-time at Applebrook Daycare in Ringgold while she finished her senior year.
In an essay Katie wrote for her college application, she emphasized the impact that people, especially educators, can have on the lives of others. She wrote, “If I can inspire students to be better people when they grow up then I feel like my choice of wanting to be an educator will be worth it.” Katie got the bigger picture at just eighteen. She understood the impact one could have on others and she aspired to be that person. Katie also wrote in that same essay - “Confidence, love and inspiration in a child are something that I believe could truly change the world.”
Katie’s legacy and words stay true to the hearts of Impact 2 One and our mission. Through the relationships we are creating with the people of Tomas Borge, we hope to inspire others to love and provide for others and help impact the world one person at a time.
